Raised on the tough streets of inner-city New York, Vernita Green (? - 2003) spent her entire childhood fighting for survival, and winning her battles. At an unknown point, she became a protege of the man called Bill, and joined his Deadly Viper Assassination Squad becoming one of the world's most ruthless assassins, and specializing in knife-fighting. She earned herself the codename: Copperhead.

In 1999, Vernita and the rest of the DiVAS on Bill's orders attacked the wedding party in El Paso, Texas, of one of their former comrades; Beatrix Kiddo, wiping out the entire party, while Bill shot Beatrix in the head, putting her in a coma.

Shortly after the wedding massacre, Vernita retired from the DiVAS, married a Dr. Bell, and with him had a daughter named Nikki. But four years later, Beatrix (now known as the Bride) awoke from her coma and began a revenge mission against the DiVAS. Vernita was her second target.

The Bride attacked Vernita in her suburban home in Pasadena, California but were interrupted when Nikki came home from school. Vernita and The Bride agreed on plans to meet in the late night for a knife-fight to the death, but this was just to give herself a few moments as Vernita tried to shoot The Bride with a gun hidden in a cereal box, but missed and was killed herself by The Bride who threw a knife through her heart.
