The Great Machine was a device that featured in the movie the Forbidden Planet.

Background

The Great Machine was a 8,000 cubic mile device created by the long dead Krell civilization that built it two thousand centries ago in an effort to gain freedom from instrumentality namely the use of tools or devices. Instead, the machine would read the thoughts of the users and make them reality. Unfortunately, the device also gave physical form to the races subconscious hatreds and fears which came from the ID. This brought about the races death in a single night as the unstoppable machine brought about genocide.
