Poole was Dr. Henry Jekyll's faithful butler. He was in charge of all of the doctor's house servants, and had worked for Jekyll for twenty years and knew all his habits and quirks. When he suspected that Jekyll's "friend" Edward Hyde had murdered him and then shut himself up in the doctor's study, Poole sent immediately for Jekyll's lawyer Utterson, little suspecting that Jekyll and Hyde were one and the same.
