Promethium X

Promethium X was a black ore substance that featured in the Spider-man animated series.

Background

Promethium X was an ore discovered by Human explorer John Jameson who journeyed in a shuttlecraft to the moon where he discovered the substance. After chipping away the substance, he returned to his shuttlecraft unaware of a black oilish substance being taken with the ore. During the return flight back to Earth, the shuttle crew was attacked by a Symbiote which caused it to crash into the Brooklyn Bridge. Once there, the Rhino entered the ship and stole the Promethium X.

The single sample of the ore was taken by the Kingpin who tasked Alistair Smythe with weaponizing the compound in order to sell it to the highest bidder. It was discovered to be highly explosive and unstable with a small piece of the rock being capable of destroying an entire room with the single sample of the ore capable of damaging the Earth itself. However, Spider-man discovered from a sample of the ore that extended exposure to Earth's atmosphere made the ore inert and useless which prevented its use as a weapon.
