Xel'Naga

The Xel'Naga were an ancient and enigmatic race of aliens.

Background
Millennia ago, they conducted evolutionary experiments on a race on the planet Aiur. This created the highly psionic race known as the Protoss. However, the Protoss eventually rejected their creators, and the Xel'Naga fled to another planet, called Char. There, they evolved a race of insectoid creature that eventually became the Zerg. Then, they went one step further, and merged the intellect of the race into the Overmind. Thus endowed with a collective genius, the Zerg attacked and assimilated many of their creators. The few survivors fled to parts unknown, but left many artifacts behind.
